I found my Mom!

Hi Mom!

I have been trying since 4:30 this morning (like 17 hours) to download you from the National Archives and Records Administration 1940 U S Census website. Apparently Texas is at the end of the access line, the more than 1.9 million viewer-strong access line, that is! I had done my homework and located your 1940 address (actually Nanny’s and Granddad’s), and then got your Enumeration District from Steve Morse’s Unified 1940 Census ED Finder. I was ready for you!

Just couldn’t get you!

But finally, after trying all day long (home from work with a severe case of Census Fever), I was finally able to download your entire Enumeration District, all 30 pages.

And here you are, on Page 11A, Line 20:

MarSStanley 1940

You and Granddad and Nanny and Aunt Jan and Uncle Mike, living at 920 Boyce Ave in Fort Worth.

I notice in Column 20D, the code “XOXO”. I believe that code means but one thing: this family is full of hugs & kisses, of course!

I AM SO HAPPY TO HAVE FINALLY FOUND YOU!!!

I must confess that I did very little database research this past week. Simply put, I was caught up in the mass hysteria that preceded this morning’s release of the 1940 U S Census by the NARA. Not a bad thing, actually. I feel like I am ready to search for my ancestors without the benefit of an every-name index. I have done my homework and read everything I could find online that dealt with the subject, and created several blog posts.

Now, if I could only access the 1940 U S Census images!

I have contended all along that I would wait a few days to search, as I expected the 1940 U S Census site to crash almost immediately after it went live this morning, which it did.

But still, Mom is waiting for me…

Plans for this week:

Research and document my findings for

  1. Fred F Cannon
  2. Florene Lenora Cannon
