  3. William Bennett
  4. Lula Bennett
  5. Alvis Gresham Bennett
  • Update both my Freepages site and WorldConnect database and email a RootsMagic backup to my Gmail account
  • Add 2 direct-line ancestors to my research wiki
  • Continue with the transfer of my image folders to my new website’s Images directory. 34 down, 116 to go….
  • Finish the little stuff for my new website and get an official Open House announcement out to GeneaCyberLand.

I’ve gotten a lot of work done this past week! My new website at RootsWeb FreePages is up and running. All the links go where they are supposed to go (visualize: crossed fingers), and the image folder transfer is going well.

Plans for this week:

  • Research and document my findings for
  1. William Drury Bennett
  2. Mamie Bahl
  3. Ima Marguerite Bennett
  4. Thelma Bennett
  5. Henry Albert Bennett
  • Update both my Freepages site and WorldConnect database and email a RootsMagic backup to my Gmail account
  • Add 2 direct-line ancestors to my research wiki
  • Continue with the transfer of my image folders to my new website’s Images directory. Only 116 folders left…
  • Week #3 post for 52 Weeks of Abundant Genealogy

52 Weeks of Abundant Genealogy Week #2- Paid Genealogy Tools

“Which paid genealogy tool do you appreciate the most? What special features put it at the top of your list? How can it help others with their genealogy research?”

I use several “tools” every day:

RootsMagic- I have tried almost every genealogy database program available and RootsMagic is by far my favorite. Simple, intuitive, gives me what I want. What else could I ask for? (P. S. Sure hope there’s an iPhone app coming soon!)

PaintShop Pro- I Love PSP! Although no longer available from originator Jasc Software, I have used it for years for image editing. If it ain’t broke, why fix it?

Ancestry.com- Corporate monster that it is, Ancestry.com is still absolutely essential to genealogy research. Less than $200/yr for U. S. records subscription. Work at home, in pajamas, at 3AM on Christmas Day, now do that 365 days/year VS time, mileage, traffic, hours of operation. Did I mention with cat in lap?

Honorable mentions: GenealogyBank and NewspaperARCHIVE for historical newspapers and documents, Fold3 for military records.

52 Weeks of Abundant Genealogy by Amy Coffin is a series of weekly blogging prompts (one for each week of 2012) that invite genealogists and others to discuss resources in the genealogy community including websites, applications, libraries, archives, genealogical societies and more. You do not have to be a blogger to participate. If you do not have a genealogy blog, write down your thoughts on your computer, or simply record them on paper and keep them with your files.
