Notes from the past…

Last week’s research activities

  • Research and document my findings for
  1. George Bennett
  2. Benjamin F Bennett
  3. William Bennett
  4. Charles Andrew Bennett
  5. Sarah Elizabeth Slaughter
  • Update both my Freepages site and WorldConnect database and email a RootsMagic backup to my Gmail account
  • Add 2 direct-line ancestors to my research wiki
  • Keep working on the headstone photos at Chatt-Jessie Cemetery

Those Bennett Boys keep me hopping, that’s for sure. Lots of data to process on Benjamin Bennett: one more murder victim!

Just one of several newspaper articles dealing with this crime, mostly from NewspaperArchive.com. Notice the victim’s name here is Bennett Miller. Further research confirmed his identity as that of my 2GGU Benjamin Franklin Bennett. I was alerted to this whole tragic incident by a Bennett cousin (Benjamin’s great-grandson) I had met online. He also sent me oodles of Bennett images and documents. One more reason for maintaining a genealogy blog!

Thanks again to my Bennett cousin, I was also able to locate a cemetery and headstone for Benjamin’s brother William Bennett. Previously all I had was one census entry for William as a five-year-old, who then promptly vanished!

The weekly backups/updates where completed…

2GGF Crist Hayes Carrico and 3GGF Benedict Augustus Carrico where added to my research wiki…

And about those pesky headstone photos… I moved both sets of images from Weebly to this blog. 2 reasons: WordPress.com has recently improved its image gallery, so I decided to take advantage of this. Also, while I really liked Weebly, I just feel better having all of my images here at this blog. I did manage to complete the inscriptions for about 10 more headstones at Chatt-Jessie. (See the Cemeteries tab at the top of this page.)

And finally for this past week, I upgraded to RootsMagic 5 from my previous Version 4. I really like the improvements, especially the research log and the greatly-simplified system of handling images. Prior to this, I only added one image to an ancestor’s record: a head shot if I had it. But when I get ready to do the in-depth research on my direct line, I may just add all images to the files.

Plans for next week:

  • Research and document my findings for
  1. Charles Andrew Bennett
  2. Sarah Elizabeth Slaughter
  3. Ola Bennett
  4. Guy Olen Bennett
  5. Ada Wallace Bennett
  • Update both my Freepages site and WorldConnect database and email a RootsMagic backup to my Gmail account
  • Add 2 direct-line ancestors to my research wiki
  • Keep working on the headstone photos at Chatt-Jessie Cemetery
