#31WBGB: Write an Elevator Pitch for Your Blog

31 Weeks ButtonTonia over at Tonia’s Roots has started a 31 Weeks to a Better Genealogy Blog weekly challenge for improving your genealogy-related blog. Ok, I’m in!

The first challenge is to write an elevator pitch for Ruth’s Genealogy.

An elevator pitch? What in the world…?

“How would you explain your business (blog) and make a sale (follower) if fate placed you in an elevator with your dream prospect (audience) and you only had the time it takes to get from the top of the building to the bottom?”

(I hope it’s a skyscraper!)

Here goes…

Simply put, Ruth’s Genealogy blog illustrates my investigation into my family history. I live in Texas, so my search started among the beautiful bluebonnets of Texas. The hunt has progressed to almost every Southern state and several Western states. I’ve run across a few “celebrities” in my virtual travels, but most are just ordinary folk, like me. Why do I spent so much of my time examining the lives of dead people? Ever read the Sherlock Holmes stories? I love the “who done it”! I am also fascinated by history and a great way for me to study American history is by studying my ancestors. A few of my less-common surnames include Appling, Carrico, Chappel, Dismukes, Isler, Lollar, Maultsby, McBurnett, Roberds and Vance.

I have tried to put everything that I have (sources, documents and images) online, so when you visit Ruth’s Genealogy blog, you will find links to all of my research. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, don’t hesitate to email me at I’m always happy to hear from you!
