Ruth's Genealogy

“And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.”

The word prompt for the 13th Edition of Smile For The Camera is All Creatures Great And Small. Show us a photograph of the family pet. The pet that made it into every family snapshot. That pampered pet your ancestors took to the photographic studio to immortalize in an expensive photograph. The best friend who was there for your ups and downs. Bring them to the carnival and share with us how they were loved through the ages. Admission is free with every photograph!

I grew up with my parents, 2 brothers, my grandparents, aunts, uncles, oodles of cousins, and…PETS, of course! For as far back as I can remember, there have been furry friends in our family. Rather than display the photo of a particular pet, I thought that I would introduce you to several of these four-legged ancestors:

Unfortunately, I don’t know the names of all of the pets, but a few highlights:

  • Top center- my grandfather Miles Francis Stanley II with Kiwi. I took this photo about 1969 (I was 11 years old) with a Brownie camera.
  • Next to Kiwi- my great-grandmother Marie Mistrot Kennedy Stanley with a kitten she found and nursed back to health
  • Right center below Calico Leaky– my Dad walking Silvester, the Siamese cat. Silly and his housemate Garfield loved to travel with my parents in their motor home and both were leash-trained. (Or maybe my Dad was leash-trained…)
  • Bottom right- my Dad wrestling a bear! (No, it wasn’t really a family pet)
  • Center bottom- Nala, my research assistant
  • Center, above Nala- Raj, my daughter’s beautiful blue-eyed Balinese
  • Center bottom- my granddaughter and Punkin
  • Above Punkin- Sylvester and Garfield

These pets are/were truly members of our family and brought much love and joy!

How is Debbie doing? When is she due? I was thinking about her today and figure she’s getting pretty close to her due date…I couldn’t remember when you said she was due. Give her and Stacie our love =)

  2. Ruth,
It’s pretty clear that you’re a “pet family”!
I admire the way you were able to combine all those snapshots into one great big photo!
