Notes from the past…

A new and exciting venture!

The Honorable Terry Thornton has invited me to become a Charter Member of a new organization known as The Association of Graveyard Rabbits:

The Association of Graveyard Rabbits is a group of individuals who are interested in promoting the historical importance of cemeteries, grave markers, and the family history to be learned from a study of burial customs, burying grounds, and tombstones.   As a group we pledge to promote the study of cemeteries, promote the preservation of cemeteries, and promote the transcription of genealogical/historical information written in cemeteries.
Thank you, Terry! I am honored!
This is very exciting! Possibly my favorite aspect of genealogy research involves studying old cemeteries, and I have inventoried and photographed 2 small rural cemeteries where several of my ancestors rest. I just love to wander around these hollowed grounds and try to imagine how the inhabitants once lived.
One of the requirements for membership in The Association of Graveyard Rabbits is the creation of a dedicated blog, to be used only for all things cemetery. So stay tuned, as this new bog is under development and will be unveiled very soon…

  1. Ruth – can’t wait to see what area you’ll be doing (as I know we are both doing Texas!) My area is quite small so hopefully that will allow me to be post useful information on both of my sites!

  2. sounds like fun Ruth!

  3. Ruth, I’m so glad you are joining THE ASSOCIATION OF GRAVEYARD RABBITS. I look forward to reading your new blog and am so pleased that you are gonna be a bluebonnet graveyard rabbit!
