I have been studying my Appling ancestors and have found William Appling (the father of Dr F B Appling) in the 1860 Mortality Schedule for Tuscaloosa Co, AL. He is the first ancestor that I have ever found in a Mortality Schedule, so it’s kinda exciting! He is listed in the Index from Ancestry, so I don’t have the actual image, yet. I’m hoping it will soon turn up at the FamilySearch Record Search site.

I have also tracked William Appling back to the 1800 Federal Census. That makes him my earliest documented ancestor. I have him (I think) in the 1790 census, but he is listed with the household of his dad Joel Appling and I don’t have any sources right now to prove Joel is his father.

The 2008 Genea-Blogger Group Games will soon begin! Sounds like a lot of fun… and a lot of work, too! I want to compete (is there a trip to the Great Wall for the winners?), hopefully I’ll have time. Now where are those old sneakers of mine…
