Ruth's Genealogy

“And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.”

You may have heard that genealogy site MyHeritage is merging with Pearl Street Software. Now Pearl Street software is the creator of the GenCircles website and of the genealogy program Family Tree Legends. There have been some customer service problems there of late, and this merger is expected to remedy things.
The most immediate benefit is that Family Tree Legends in now free to download, in its entirety! “Family Tree Legends version 5.0 is a powerful and sophisticated genealogy program designed to make it easy for you to collect, display, and organize information about your family history.”
This is a very nice program that I tried a few years ago and liked, although I now use Family Tree Maker. If memory serves, there were some problems downloading the trial version of Family Tree Legends, so I ended up with Family Tree Maker, which I was able to buy at a local Best Buy store. In fact, I have been recently looking for that program from a few years ago, but I couldn’t remember its name! In the past few days, I have read on several blogs about the merger, so last night I went to their site and downloaded the program (with no worries this time!)
For now, I plan to leave my Bluebonnet Country Genealogy database in Family Tree Maker, but I transferred the Stephens-McCullough database to Family Tree Legends. I don’t have any documents or photographs added to Stephens-McCullough yet, so there is nothing lost in moving to a new program.
Oh, yeah, the records collection at Family Tree Legends is also now free!
